Salix Fruits announced the start of the Argentine lemon season

The first containers sent to the USA will arrive in Philadelphia during the second week of May.

The company expects to start exporting to the EU during this month.

Salix Fruits recently launched its app to improve the experience of customers and producers who sell fresh fruit in both hemispheres.

Salix Fruits, the leading company in the import and export of fresh fruits, announced the start of the Argentine lemon season. In the framework of the second wave of COVID-19 that affects the country and the region, the company made its first shipments without problems, given that operations were more prepared to face this year with the continuity of the pandemic.

“This new peak in Argentina has not yet generated generalized inconveniences in agricultural production or ports” explains Alejandro Moralejo, CEO of Salix Fruits, and adds: “All the same, this resurgence of coronavirus cases it’s a threat to the harvesting, packing, and ports operations. That is why all these activities are ensuring that the protocols established to allow normal operations are respected”.

Argentina is the main country for supplying lemon in the off-season, but at the moment “the exported volumes are low as a result of the bad weather and the rains. Likewise, the demand of the markets has not drawn early as in other years”, analyzes Moralejo.

The fruits, which are in optimal conditions as a result of the summer drought, have already been sent to the USA, Russia, Canada, the Middle East, and Asia - with the first shipments to China of the season-. The first containers sent to the USA will arrive in Philadelphia during the second week of May.

Export to the EU, which had been suspended since July last year, was recently enabled. “The different actors in the sector are waiting for the implementation of the protocols by the Argentine Phytosanitary Authority to be able to start operations”, says the CEO of Salix Fruits.

The Argentine NOA (Tucumán and Salta) is the area with the highest concentration of lemon production in the entire southern hemisphere, where the climate and the professionalism of the producers/exporters achieve an excellent quality product to supply the world market.

“USA, Russia, Canada and Europe are the main destinations for the lemons that we sell in Salix from Argentina. This year we are very excited, increasing volumes to the Middle East and Asia, and starting to export Argentine lemons to China”, says Moralejo.

The company, which ended 2020 with a growth of 100%, and the opening of its office in Chile, is committed to having a year of stabilization and consolidation of its operations, leveraged in the recent launch of its app to improve the experience of clients and producers who sell fresh fruit in both hemispheres.

A pioneer in the world of fresh fruits in the development of an app of this type, Salix Fruits presented a platform that customers and producers can download directly to their phones and keep track of all the offers that the company has with images of the fruits that they offer, the origin and the price, among other functionalities.

At the height of e-commerce, Salix sought to create a digital fruit marketplace that is not only simple for users but also allows them to have all the documentation of the operation and know the status of the online order.
