Record Harvest of South African Citrus!
The season for South African lemons, tangerines, and oranges has started and the expectations cannot be better.
This year, the weather conditions were very favorable, so a record harvest is forecasted for the region, with notable growth per species. The latest projections expect a total volume of 160 million boxes that South Africa will export this year, which means an estimated growth of almost 10% compared to 2020.

For some years, Turkey has established internationally as a renowned exporter of lemons. Its season starts in September and lasts until March. Then the Turkish lemon supply is supported by “Yatak” lemons preserved naturally in the caves of Capadoccia.

The expected decrease in global lemon processing and the particular world situation makes difficult to define a purchasing strategy this year.
It´s still unknown how the market demand will react after COVID-19, but it is already predictable the impact of the supply on the prices.

The Egyptian grape season has started!
The producers are already preparing the first shipments of grapes in Egypt, and here in Salix, we are super excited.
This year we have available the best harvests of Early Sweet, Sugraone, Flame, Crimson Seedless, and Red Globe, so we have ahead several months of hard work in which we hope to reach hundreds of tons shipped to Europe, especially to the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Poland.

Any other fans of South African oranges around here? This country, the second citrus exporter in the world, after Spain and ahead of Turkey, has already started shipping its production.
76% of the citrus produced by South Africa is exported, with the European Union being the largest importer with 42%.
From Salix, we have witnessed the great increase in lemon and tangerine plantations in South African territory, with our own South African procurement office since 2014, and after meeting some of its main farmers, who have had great success in previous years, we are ready and looking forward to another great Citrus season.

Previously, he served as a Sales Executive at Citrusvil, Argentina's largest lemon producer, packer, and industrializer.

Salix Fruits announced the beginning of the Argentine lemon season
Despite the particular world situation, the company shipped the first containers of Argentine lemons in 2020.
Salix Fruits estimates to deliver around 700,000 boxes of 18kgs between March and August.
The COVID-19 pandemic involved mandatory quarantines, difficulties in the ports and in the internal logistics. But these problems are being overcome and, for now, they have only brought delays in the loads at the end of March. At the moment, the import- export of fruits is guaranteed, given that they are essential products, healthy and suppliers of Vitamin C.

Fruit Logistica 2020: business, friends and good news!
A few days ago we took part of FRUIT LOGISTICA in Berlin.
This global scenario of the fresh fruit business allows us to meet customers and partners face to face: 3,200 exhibitors and more than 78,000 professional visitors who are part of the international fresh produce market.
It is the fourth year in a row that we participate in this Fair with our own stand having exceptional opportunities to meet our customers, suppliers and friends.

On a trip to Morocco!
In early January, Luis Elortondo, our Sourcing Director, visited several Moroccan companies that are worth knowing.
It is the beginning of a series of trips that aim to turn Salix Fruits into a company that imports citrus in the USA and not just lemons.
Why Morocco? Because this country is, for mandarins, what Turkey is for lemons. It´s excellent agro, climatie, and labor conditions make it an ideal place.

Luis Elortondo, our Sourcing Director, continues to travel the world to discover the places where the best fruits are harvested.
This week he was with a Mexican producer / packer of citrus fruits, from Hermosillo Sonora, a desert area with little rainfall and sandy soil, with the ideal conditions to produce Valencia oranges, similar to those in California, but very clean skin and appearance.
